Alienware, a Dell’s subsidiary is all set to launch M17x R4, the successor to the R3 M17x. The M17x R4 will pack even more powerful processor, probably top-of the line Ivy Bridge but other than that, it will also have some design differences compared to the current model.

I just bought myself an Alienware M18x last week and immediately installed Crysis 3 to see how its Nvidia 680M SLI performs is like on this gaming laptop. Installation went fine but I was able to max out all the graphics under Crysis’ settings.

Alienware has silently updated its flagship M18x notebook. The 2410m model has been upgraded to i5 2430m and the 2720qm model has been updated to i7 2760qm. The GPU has also received an updated to Nvidia GTX 560m to 580M.

Few weeks back, we mentioned about the Alienware M18x Aero problem. Dell undertook the matter seriously and have posted a patch on their site that fixes those issues. For those who do not know, the M18x would revert back to windows basic theme in the middle of game or a movie without any apparent reason.

Several Alienware M18x users are complaining about the nasty Aero issue in which the Windows 7 randomly switches back to Basic interface which is non transparent, from Aero which is transparent. Exact reason behind this is still unknown.
