The body of the HP Probook 4431s is made from brushed metal which also make it look and feel premium. This finish makes sure that it does not catches fingerprints easily.
The display measures 14 inch and has a resolution of 1366 x 768 which is certainly not very exiting. HP offers matte screen as an option that does not produce strong glare. Notice the two microphones along the display.
Heat dissipation is excellent on it. Even after running it at max load for 1 hour, it did not get very hot.
The keyboard and touchpad on this HP laptop is nothing but fantastic. In fact, they are even better than the HP DM1 E450 netbook that was reviewed few days back. The shortcuts above the keyboard are made of metal, including the power and Wi-Fi toggle buttons. The touchpad’s mouse buttons do not require a lot of effort to register a tap.
Interfaces – On the left side, you will find a USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0 port, HDMI, LAN, VGA, power port and Kensington lock. On the right side, you will find two more USB 2.0 ports and DVD burner.
Performance – The 4431s is powered by an Intel Core i5 2410m processor that runs at 1.9GHz clock speed. We have done review of i5 2410m and we were extremely satisfied with its speeds.
HP has also squeezed in ATi Radeon HD 6490m GPU which gives a great performance boost in the graphics department. Here is the windows experience index:
* Processor: 6.9
* Memory: 5.5
* Graphics: 5.7
* Gaming graphics: 6.4
* Primary hard disk: 5.9
The GPU scored 5888 in the 3DMark 06 graphics benchmark test. The processor, along with this powerful GPU provides great windows 7 experience. You will have no problems doing multitasking, running games, and viewing full HD content.
Battery is removable and it sits flush with the unit. In the battery life benchmark test (done using MobileMark 2007 – productivity profile), the HP 4431s got 4 hours of runtime which is good enough from a 6 cell battery (47 Wh). HP does sells a bigger 9 cell battery that should push its runtimes to somewhere around 6 hours.
Verdict – It is an amazing notebook. With magnesium alloy body, compact design with amazing heat dissipation, HP surely has a winner in their hands. [via pconline] (Chinese)
