Lenovo ThinkPad P52: the first laptop with 128 GB of RAM

Lenovo ThinkPad P52

The laptop assembler Lenovo, has just introduced its new Lenovo ThinkPad P52 computer. This new model will be the first laptop with 128 GB of internal RAM and a processor of the Xeon range of 6 cores and 12 threads, together with an NVIDIA Quadro P3200 graphics card, all this to be able to execute the most demanding applications. Many users may wonder what they would like a laptop with 128 GB of RAM. And it is true that, for a simple use, in a laptop 128 GB of RAM would be a barbarity. However, for the use that is usually given to portable workstations, to which the Lenovo ThinkPad P52 belongs, having 128 GB of storage for RAM is not unreasonable. We can not forget that this type of laptops are often used in certain tasks such as computer DTR (Desktop Replacement), such as graphic editing or 3D modeling. That is, professional tasks that do require a large amount of RAM available to the programs.

For this type of tasks, Lenovo has wanted to equip its ThinkPad P52 with the possibility of mounting Intel Core or Xeon 8th Generation processors. In this case, although we do not know the concrete models of both lines of processors, we do know that they will be processors with six cores and 12 threads, something very consistent with the specifications of this laptop.

The Lenovo ThinkPad P52 opens the arrival in the segment of laptops of SO-DIMM modules of high-density RAM. Until now, the SO-DIMM modules that had more capacity and could be purchased, were the 32 GB modules, to give a total of 64 GB of RAM available with the equipment. This means that, from now on, laptops could have almost as much RAM as their counterparts in the desktop sector.

As a panel, the ThinkPad P52 can have two options: one with 1080p resolution, a color range of 72% and a brightness of 300 nits ; or, a tactile model with 4K resolution, a brightness of 400 nits and a color range of 100% of the Adobe spectrum. And if your resolution seems scarce, the laptop also has two Thunderbolt 3 ports with which you can move a monitor with 8K resolution.

As for the internal storage that could be available, Lenovo says that this portable workstation may have up to 6 TB of internal storage.

Lenovo has not communicated the price that the ThinkPad P52 will have or when it can be purchased.
