Korean Giant, Samsung now has a strong contender for the Apple’s 17 inch Macbook Pro, the NP700Z7CH. This huge notebook packs the new Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7 3615QM quad core processor that runs at 2.3GHz clock speed and features Nvidia 650M GPU with 2GB GDDR5 memory.
Like the 17 inch Macbook Pro, it has a 17.3 inch full HD (1920 x 1080) display and features slot load DVD writer. Samsung has also tried to make its notebook offering more attractive by equipping it with some JBL speakers and 2x USB 3.0 ports, both of which are absent on the Macbook Pro.
So, the port selection on it looks like this – Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, a mini DisplayPort, a D-sub connector, a pair of audio jacks and mutli card card reader. There is no word on its battery runtimes, but we do know that its 8 cell battery along with Ivy Bridge are not going to produce disappointing numbers.
Oh, and the Samsung NP700Z7CH is just 25mm thick that is pretty thin for a 17.3 inch notebook that packs and offers so much. At 1500 dollars, I personally think it is a bargain when compared to Apple’s 2000 dollars+ notebook. If you want something under 400 dollars, do check out the Gateway NV-75S26U that features AMD A6 processor and a discrete GPU.
