Toshiba has rolled out two new models in its Tecra 2012 lineup. One is Tecra R940 and another is R950. Currently, Toshiba is offering two pre-build models for R940 – Tecra R940-S9430 and Tecra R940-S9440. The R940-S9430 comes with Core i5 3320M processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB hard disk and ATi Radeon HD 7570M GPU with 1GB DDR5 RAM. Check out Core i5 3320m benchmark.
On the other hand, R940-S9440 comes with more powerful Core i7 3520M processor, 4GB RAM, 320GB hard disk and 1GB DDR5 VRAM ATi Radeon HD 7570M GPU. The Tecra R940-S9430 and Tecra R940-S9440 will retail at 1320 and 1510 dollars respectively.
For those looking two customize their Toshiba notebook, you have two models to start with the $600 model, Tecra R940-SMBN22 and $1080 model Tecra R940-BT9400. I spent some time customizing it on the site. The best you can get is 1600 x 900, which is something I would recommend to all potential R940 and R950 customers. It costs just 30 dollars for the upgrade and it is fully worth it.
If you do not want the high resolution, then the Tecra R940 is not worth it. Better save money by getting something like Toshiba B351.
